View Full Version : New Forums Software
The Maple Guys have decided to switch to a more reliable forums software package. So, the forums have been converted from phpbb to vBulletin. vBulletin makes for better forums right out of the box, and also allows for easier customization in the future. The conversion process from one software to another isn't perfect, and there are minor bugs to be fixed. Please post in this thread any bugs that you notice and I'll get to work on them. After they are fixed, new features and customization are planned. Thanks for your patience...
The date and time is correctly set on our server. If you notice the date and time of posts is inaccurate, go into your control panel (after you log in there is a "User CP" in the top-left of the forums, under the forums logo). After clicking on User CP, click on Edit Options in the left column, then scroll down to the Date & Time Options. That is where you select your local time zone. Doing this should make your date and time display correctly.

I have to view the forum/posts twice before it shows that there isn't a new post.

My inbox said that I had Like 55 and I always keep it cleaned out.
Check your "sent items" folder - the items are probably in there. The limit applies to all folders, not just the inbox.

Can we upload a photo for and Avatar? I tryed it and it does not work yet.
Right, the settings don't allow it currently. The features of the new software are being reviewed... a notice will be posted here if that feature is going to be turned on. Thanks for asking.

Fred,
If you go to "User CP" and then to "edit profile picture" the picture you add will show up in the "Member List"
Jim
OK, avatars have been turned "on".

Actually, avatars and profile pictures are different. Your User CP has both an "Edit Avatar" link and an "Edit Profile Picture" link. An avatar shows next to your user name in every post you make. It is limited to the dimensions of 80 x 80 pixels and a file size of 19.5 KB. A Profile Picture shows only when someone views your profile. It is limited to 100 x 100 pixels and a file size of 64 KB. The picture that shows in the member list is the avatar.

Will we have a choice of asending or desending threads?
Will we have a choice of asending or desending threads?
Go into your User CP (link in upper left) then choose Edit Options, then scroll down to Thread Display Options That should be what you are looking for when you say "a choice of ascending or descending threads", correct?

What I am say is that when I click on a thread the last reply that was written is the first one that I want to see.

What is going on when i read a post, then go back to the main page by clicking the link at the top, then I have to view that post a second time before the orange(new post) goes away?

Fred - By default, it displays the oldest post in a thread first. If you want to change that, you have to go to your User CP as described in my post just prior to this one. You would need to change it from Linear-Oldest First to Linear-Newest First. Please give it a try and post back here if that does not give you your desired results.

Ryan - I saw that you posted that issue earlier in this thread and I was waiting to see if I could duplicate that problem. I have not been able to duplicate it. When you enter a forum that has the "Forum contains new posts" icon, are you clicking on every thread in there that contains new posts? If you don't click on every one, the "Forum contains new posts" icon will remain.

Maybe that's the problem, i don't know. It's hard to get used to something new when you all ready know it by the back of your hand the old way.

Say there's a new post(s) under for sale no photos....I view the new one(s). While I'm on that same page, I click the link back to the home page at the top to see if there are any more new post(s) under any different categories. Well as I scroll down, the flag is still orange under that category that I just viewed. If it just does it to me then I'll just have to deal with it.

Ted/ Breezy, I had some issue too with new post icon not changing after I read posts, but not sure what I did to cause it. Lately, I've been more careful about using the nav links to go back one step at a time and this seems to solve the issue, but means you have to be more careful about how you navigate to make sure it works.
Any chance you can add the nav links at the bottom of the page? Kind of a pain always having to scroll back to the top of a thread to navigate.

Hangin,
I think you might have explained it better. It just takes longer and a few more steps to do it that way, but does work.

Now that you bring nav links up, I guess it is good to mention that you should avoid using your browser's back button. That's generally true no matter what website you visit. Always try to use the website's navigation instead.
I'll take a look at what's involved in adding nav links on the bottom too. Good suggestion.

Am I crazy or arn't the nave links already at the bottom? There is a forum jump below the quick respond box.
You are not crazy :) That is another navigation option.

You could still be crazy... you're here aren't you? :)
But the nav links are much easier to use than the forum jump drop-down box. For one thing, you have to know where you are and where you want to go to use that feature.
EDIT: The forum jump drop-down box is easier to use than I though. It always shows your current location and all you have to do is press GO and it's the same as clicking the first nav link at the top. Tks Maplehound.

Ted:
oneoldsap here, thanks for your help getting squared away with your new software. Now that I'm back in all I have to do is figure out how to navigate my way around.
No problem, glad you're now able to log in and post! :)

I am still having trouble logging in to check PM and or posting a reply. Can you help?
Thanks
Dan
If you are able to log in to post a reply to a thread as you just have, I am not sure why you would have trouble logging in to check PMs. After you log in to the forums you should see "Welcome, New Hope Mapleman". What happens when you click on "Private Messages" in that same section?
