We tapped on February 3rd and I got the last of the taps pulled yesterday. We had 42 taps out this year and during our five or six week season we made 29 5/8 gallons of syrup. It was a great season compared to last year, we made about six gallons but we had about a dozen less taps. We hope to expand a little next year building a new sugar house and reverse osmosis system. I still have some cleaning up to do but its about done.

if I do the math correctly, you got almost 30 gallons from 42 taps? that works out to close to .7 gal per tap...thats a ratio most sugarmakers would die for...

what types of trees?

sounds like a great season...

Got to be buckets or a bucket with a line on each tree.

Good job! That's impressive for 42 taps. I'm hoping for 7-8 gal.
Congrats:D

We have all hard maples and tap them about three feet off the ground with a hose running to a 4 1/2 gallon bucket. We get the buckets from a grocery store, they get their cake and donut icing in them.
