I really like how mapletalk is organized, but sometimes I can't find a post or thread I recall reading in the past. The search function is adequate, but I would like to use the advanced search capabilities of Google to try to better define my search. Is it possible to use Google? My test efforts to use Google have resulted in zero finds, as if mapletalk postings don't even exist.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Marc

Just to clarify, do you mean the posts on Maple Trader?

I think he'd have to be talking about MapleTrader... I just checked MapleTalk.com and it seems to be a Chinese website :) .

I would suspect working within the existing search and learning how to use it well is the best. I have played with it and it works great.

I would think if google searched all documents ever posted online, if I went there and did a search regarding how to hook up my tube to a releaser I would have to wade through some significant PORN to find what I needed.
I have WAY to much to get done without subjecting myself to that abuse.

I can't speak for Marc, but he may have been referring to the Google Site Search tool. I am not sure of the benefits of using that over the existing search tool that MapleTrader already has. Integrating Google Site Search into a site does rquire payment of subscription fees, so it is not likely a viable option. http://www.google.com/sitesearch/

Yes, I was referring to Maple Talk. There is so much great information there, with posts being added by the hour, I was wondering if a more robust search engine existed. I'm not familiar with all the technical aspects of search--I don't know what a Chinese website is. But I am a big user of Google for research. I probably use Google 20 times a day. I've come to appreciate the search features such as "Find web pages that have all these words", "this exact wording or phrase", or "one or more of these words", and even "don't show pages with these unwanted words." These screens can really be helpful on a search. If I had a wish list for Maple Talk, these would be on it.

As I write this, I ran a test using Google advanced search and I actually did find a post on Maple Talk I was seeking. Not sure why it didn't work before. So it does work at least sometimes.

Many thanks for a great website and your ideas.

Marc

If you just add "site:mapletalk.com" to your Google search terms it will only give you results from the specified site. Keep in mind that the Google index may lag a bit in getting the latests posts.
